0:15 This one’s from Radoslav, and he wanted to basically, ask you does email marketing still work? He finds that it is hard with Google filters to make it to the inbox and people are just not even really checking their emails, so he’s not even convinced that he should use email marketing with his agency.

0:30 First off, anytime a business operates, they need email. Yes, there’s Slack, there’s Skype, there are many other communication channels, but businesses still revolve around email, and if businesses still use it, you can bet that if you get an email in their inbox and they read it, you can generate sales.

1:00 For that reason, emails aren’t going away. Gmail ads are growing in revenue, more and more people every single quarter are leveraging Gmail ads just because they know emails are powerful. So the first part of your question is, are emails valuable, yes. I know that’s not directly what you answered, but the second part, which I’ll get to is, do they still work, yes, because people still read emails.

1:50 GDPR has come out, and with GDPR, and I love it you have to put a little tick box saying, yes I authorize you to send me weekly emails. So that way they know what they’re getting into and you’ll find that that increases your open rates because the people who click that tick box want your emails.

2:15 The second thing that most people don’t tell you with email marketing is, you need to scrub your list. If you have 100,000 email list, and that’s usually the threshold, once you hit 100,000 you’re going to notice that your email open rates just start tanking and it’s because people don’t clean their lists often enough, I clean my list monthly. And some email providers do this like ConvertKit does this I don’t think MailChimp does this, but I think MailChimp wants you to keep paying out money for the inactive emails.

2:45 The whole purpose of cleaning the emails are for the people who aren’t opening your emails and engaging, you just stop sending them emails. And by doing that yes your email list shrinks, but what you’ll find is, the people you send the emails to the engagement goes up, and Gmail and Outlook look at engagement more than anyone else and it’s a really high priority, for if they’re going to put the email in the inbox and if you’re only sending emails to majority of the people open it and you start having 20-30% open rates, you’ll notice that your emails go into the inbox versus the Promotion tabs.

4:00 Don’t use email templates, use text-based emails and add in links. You also don’t wanna add more than three links to your site; I try only to do one. If you add in too many, you’re going to notice that you also won’t see amazing deliverability.

4:15 Make sure you whitelist your emails. So go to AOL, they whitelist, you can use services like Return Path. Outlook and Gmail don’t do whitelist services. But if you follow these tips, you’ll be good to go. And you’ll get in the inbox.

4:30 Make sure you test creative subject lines like ones that your friends would send, lower case, things like hey did you see this, right? Of course, it needs to be relevant to your business or the offer you’re producing, if you dupe people they’re going to get upset, I’m giving you an extreme case so you can try to have the creative juices start flowing and come up with really good ideas. But it’s not that hard to get in the inbox.

5:50 Scrub your list, don’t put too many links, don’t add images and videos, and only send to people who want them.

Most people think that the best Email Marketing Strategy is to send pretty, graphic-filled emails that beautifully sell their products.

Though this may work for brands like Nike, Gucci, Apple, etc., as a marketer, you want to tell stories.

Storytelling in Emails is going to be one of the biggest keys to keeping your open rates up and driving engagement from interested subscribers.

Everyone loves a good story, and stories sell, so why not use them?

When it comes to the best email marketing training, if they teach you to sell above giving valuable content and stories, you should re-assess where you’re learning email marketing from…

The problem with constantly selling from your emails is that people will get burnt out on “ad emails” very quickly, and your open rates will drop within a few days of using an email automation sequence or even just your standard broadcast emails.

Above all else, you want to be entertaining and educational.

Never use email marketing for spamming or loads of promoting products. You want to have value to offer. One of the best Email Marketing Tips I can give you is to bring value to your reader in every email.

As far as Email Marketing Strategies for 2019 and 2020, you’ll want to focus on providing value for at least 2 or 3 emails before ever asking for a sale, and when you do ask for a sale, try to keep it in a story and then show them the product that solved one of YOUR problems.

People relate to problems, solutions, and stories so well that they can actually be more interested, inspired, and appreciative of your email. That’s what you want. Not people unsubscribing because you do nothing but promote products.

7 eCommerce Email Marketing Tactics That Work Like a Charm

Email marketing is the life and blood of e-commerce, but if you’re using it wrong, it won’t generate you any sales. When you look at companies like Overstock do you know where they’re getting the majority of their sales from? Email marketing. That’s how powerful it is. Today I’m going to share with you seven e-commerce email marketing tactics that work like a charm.

I’m going to break down seven tactics, and if you use these, your numbers will go up.

Tactic number one, scrub your list.

The reason I say scrub your list, too many people have eCommerce email marketing out there and they’re just like, yeah, my list is huge, I’m at 100,000, I’m at 200,000, and I’m going to keep emailing everyone.

Well, what you’ll find is your email’s going to the promotions tab.

Why is it going to the promotions tab?

It’s because you keep emailing people that aren’t opening up your emails.

If you scrub your list, only email the people that are opening it, your deliverability rates go up, you get into the inbox, and your open rates go up, your clicks go up, your sales go up.

Scrub your list. If you’re using a good email provider like ConvertKit, they automatically do it for you.

Number two, you want to make sure you do trigger-based emails. If someone is on your email list, they add stuff to their cart, but they don’t complete their checkout, what should your email be to them?

When someone goes to their checkout they have these products and they don’t checkout, but then, you shoot them an email being like, check out our e-commerce store, here are all these products that we sell.

Well, that’s a terrible email.

They already added the ones that they want to buy, but they just need that push over the edge.

Maybe some testimonials, whatever may be to get them over the edge, that will help a lot, and you’ll notice a ton of sales from that.

The third thing that you need to do is time-based emails. Here’s what I mean by that.

Everyone’s like, yeah, you send out an email, people open it up whenever they do. If you have a ton of unopened emails in your inbox, what happens?

You’ll find that you’re less likely to go through all the ones that are at the bottom and open them up.

People get lazy, it’s not just you, it’s everyone. So you want to look at what time that person came to your site and put in their email.

That’s when you should be sending them an email.

I try to stick within that timeframe, usually within an hour, versus sending it whenever it’s my convenience.

The fourth thing you want to do is promotional-based emails.

So you want to make your campaign set up in advance. You don’t want to be at the last minute writing these emails.

That’s a lot from a holiday season, even though there’s a whole 12 months in a year.

The fifth tip I have for you is to keep your emails short, to the point, and try to use text-based emails.

Most e-commerce companies love using image-based emails.

Do you know what happens with image-based emails?

They get pushed in the promotions tab.

Google and Gmail and Outlook, they all know that when someone sends you an email with a ton of images, it’s usually a promotion versus when someone sends you a text-based email it’s typically a friend, hence, you want to use text-based emails.

The sixth tactic I have for you is upselling and downselling.

Typically, when someone buys from your e-commerce product you’re going to have upsells and downsells on the checkout page.

Sure, you want to still have them on the checkout page right after they purchase, but you also want to followup through email for all the people that don’t buy your upsells and downsells.

On your thank you pages where you have these upsells and downsells, usually they’re short and to the point.

Through email, they can be much more in-depth, longer, and you want to space it out.

You want to followup with all the other things that they can buy that can make that experience even better. It’s very important to get the timing right.

The moment you get the timing wrong, that’s when you’ll see that those emails won’t convert at all.

And last but not least, when you’re doing email marketing, it’s not just about email.

It’s very similar to email about the tactics that I’m going to break down. It’s push notifications. I use email combined with push notifications.

So when someone subscribes to my site through tools like Subscribers, I’ll let them know and push send them through their browser, hey, here are the products that you could end up buying.
