(IS 1489.1.1991) Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) – Fly Ash Based | Application | Manufacturing process | PPC | Quality parameter and PPC advantage

Note: As per current revision in Indian Standard Norm: Fly ash can be used in the range of Min15% and Max 35%. Now these day most of the Indian cement company using Fly ash addition in the range of 30 to 35%, so that use of Thermal Power Plant byproduct Flyash can used in larger quantity.

Fly Ash Quality properties as per Indian Standard IS 3812.1.2003.

The Portland Pozzolana Cement is a kind of Blended Cement (Clinker 62% + Gypsum 4% + Flyash 35%) which is produced by either inter-grinding of OPC clinker along with gypsum and pozzolanic materials in certain proportions or grinding the OPC clinker, gypsum and Pozzolanic materials separately and thoroughly blending them in certain proportions.

Used in hydraulic structures, marine structures, construction near the sea shore, dam construction etc. Used in pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete members. Used in masonry mortars and plastering. As it gives better surface finish, it is used in decorative and art structures.
Portland pozzolana cement (PPC) has following advantages when concrete is in its hardened state.
Compressive Strength & Rate of Strength Gain, Modulus of Elasticity, Bond of Concrete to Steel, Heat of Hydration, Reduced Shrinkage, Permeability.
Typically pozzolans are used as cement replacements rather than cement additions. Adding pozzolans to an existing concrete mix without removing an equivalent amount of cement increases the paste content and decreases the water/cement ratio. In other words, adding more pozzolans to a mix changes the mix proportions.
