The Biggest Impact on SEO

Eric Schmidt the ex-CEO of Google once said, brands are the solution, they’re not the problem, right? It’s how you sort out the good companies from the cesspool. And I’m paraphrasing his quote, but you guys get the point. It’s pretty much saying brands are important and brands are a key factor in Google’s rankings.

So, I once, over time I noticed a trend, more and more people were typing in my domain name into Google. So my domain name is neilpatel.com for one of my sites where people are typing in my name, Neil Patel SEO, Neil Patel tools, Neil Patel Ubersuggest, Neil Patel content marketing, et cetera variations of my name.

And what we found is if we didn’t build links or anything, well our brand spiked from PR or whatnot, and it spiked for a month or two, all of our ranking skyrocketed. And even when the PR went down and the brand queries went down, our rankings maintained or close to maintained to their peaks. So we found that Google loves brands.

Like, we’ve seen and tested sites in different regions globally. And even if you build links, you write the right content, you’re super thorough, we found that if you don’t have brand queries, you don’t rank as high. But if you have a ton of brand queries and you barely have links or anything like that, your ranking skyrockets.

There’s an algorithm change back in 2009, that was a big brand update, I believe. And since then, bigger brands have been getting a benefit. Now, “bigger brands”. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be a bigger company, right?

You don’t have to be a Nike or Wikipedia. You just have to be a big brand for the keywords you’re trying to rank for. And you don’t have to be the biggest brand. You just have to be somewhat of a brand. Like, my brand queries suck compared to Nike I get roughly a hundred thousand visitors a month from people googling Neil Patel even though my domain name’s neilpatel.com. But yeah, I still rank well, and so does Nike but Nike probably gets a hundred thousand queries every single minute.

You do YouTube, you’re on social media, you blog, you speak at conferences, you build a brand. And you do that whether it’s personal or whether it’s corporate. and just look at how much business you got because of brand, not a lead, you have rankings and get traffic to your site, but it also helps generate business as well. And you can do that for a corporate brand, and again a personal brand, but very few people spend time and energy into it.

So I stick with the rule of seven. When someone sees your brand or hears about it seven times and interacts with it seven times they’re much more likely to become a loyal follower. Again, whether it’s personal or corporate.

So, simple things that you can do is, one, collect emails. If you collect emails, anytime you update your content, or have something new, like a YouTube video you can always blast it out. Two, you can do push notifications. So, anytime someone comes to your site, have them subscribe. Anytime you have new content or want to push out a message, let them know. Three, leverage social media all of the channels out there, because they believe that you’re not going to find someone on one channel or another, but you know, if you leverage all of them you’ll get something. It’s better than nothing. Four, engage with people.

Core Web Vitals: How to Optimize Them for SEO

In this tutorial, you’ll learn what core web vitals are, why they’re important and how to optimize them for SEO.

***************************************
As of mid-June 2021, Core Web Vitals will become a part of Google’s Page Experience ranking signals.

Since it’s fairly new, there is a lot of misinformation and misunderstandings around the topic.

So, what are Core Web Vitals?

Core Web Vitals are made up of 3 metrics that measure specific aspects of pagespeed. And these metrics include visual load, measured by Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), visual stability of your web pages, measured by Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), and interactivity which is done with First Input Delay (FID).

Like many other Google ranking factors, the Core Web Vitals can’t be looked at independently. They’re a part of Google’s Page Experience ranking signals which also includes things like mobile friendliness, safe browsing, HTTPs, and intrusive interstitials — ie. pop ups.

No one knows exactly how big the impact will be seeing as it’s still very young. Regardless, it’s probably still worth improving your core web vitals because pagespeed improves conversions.

To optimize your site for core web vitals, you need to understand the two main types of data for Core Web Vitals metrics. They are:

► Field data
► Lab test data

Field data includes real user metrics and is generated from the Chrome User Experience Report, also known as CrUX.

Lab test data is data generated by tools. And lab test tools are designed to run tests consistently under the same conditions.

You’ll learn what both these mean in the video.

Before you get started optimizing your site for Core Web Vitals, it’s important that you handle the other basics of Google’s Page Experience signals like mobile friendliness, https, etc.

Once that is done, you’re ready to finally optimize your site for each of the 3 metrics of Core Web Vitals.

► Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)
► Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)
► First Input Delay (FID)

You’ll learn the recommended thresholds, how to optimize each aspect and how to troubleshoot common issues in the video.

How to Boost Your SEO Traffic with Sleeper Content (And Stop Promoting Worthless Content)

You look at all these SEO tools out there, whether it’s Ubersuggest, Ahrefs, Semrush, Moz, and you type in a keyword, like I typed in marketing tools here, and you’ll see a SEO difficulty number which tells you how hard it is to rank for that keyword on Google. Now, this data is pulled through backlinks, but how can you figure out if a keyword is really easy or not to rank without going through all the effort of promoting the content? Today I’m going to break down how you can increase your traffic through sleeper content.

How to Do SEO For A Tiny Site With No Backlinks (video): https://youtu.be/Y772PSqmudo

My Favorite SEO Hack to Increase Website Traffic (video): https://youtu.be/WTWZQ_4_zNk
____________________________________________

As I mentioned earlier, if you use a SEO tool and you type in any keyword, whether it’s marketing tools or even just something like marketing, you’ll see how difficult it is to rank for a keyword. And some of these keywords are really easy to rank for. Some of them are much harder to rank for. But does that mean that you can’t rank for these keywords if you don’t have a ton of backlinks? No, that’s not the case, and the reason being is Google uses many factors. Links are just one aspect of it. Traffic without putting tones of effort through sleeper content.

So let’s head over to the neilpatel.com website. As you can see here, here’s my homepage. Scroll down, a little bit about me. And then now let’s go to the blog where you can find all my content. Now I’m going to show you my content. I want you to see what’s off, okay.

Some have little to no comments, like 12 or 8. But why is that? Why are some posts doing extremely well and others aren’t? Well, I’m going to share a little secret with you. The posts that tend to have a lot of comments I promote. I push on social media, like Facebook, Instagram, videos, and my live sessions. I’ll cross-link to them more. I even do email blasts, push notification blasts.

I give a ton to promote them so that way people get to know that content, they want to share that content, and hopefully it ranks higher. But you can only send so many email blasts in a day. You can only send so many push notification blasts. You can only promote so many posts on Facebook on your fan page before your audience gets irritated that you’re sharing five pieces of content a day.

So let me tell you a little secret on what I do. I create a ton of sleeper content.

I’ll cross-link. I’ll promote it more. I’ll try to build links by manually outreaching to sites. I’ll push it on social media. I may even do the email blast. But what I’m doing is I’m creating tones of content and publishing it. But most of my content that I publish like that, this is what I call sleeper content, which if you’re publishing it, you’re not really telling too many people about it, you’re not marketing it, it doesn’t all rank.

A lot of these pages that I’m writing content on aren’t ranking in the top 10 results or top 10 pages on Google. But a good portion of them are, and all I’m doing is just publishing content. The moment it gets to page two, I’ll start doing more marketing to try to get it to page one. And really what I’m looking at is not if it hits page two. I’m looking to see if it hits the top of page two or bottom of page one.

I’ve been doing this strategy for years. It works really well. And you probably haven’t seen a lot of this content because I don’t push it out in email blasts or social media mentions, but it works really well, and that’s how I’ve grown my traffic to millions of visitors a month. So let me know your thoughts. Curious if you like this strategy.
