Email Marketing: The “Talking Things” Email (Email That Perfectly Marries Promotion & Content)

I ended up interviewing Allan Ngo for my Ecommerce Newsletter & YouTube channel due to a cold email he sent me.

The cold email was so good that I had to invite him on to share some information about what he coined as the “Talking Things” email.

I’m so glad he reached out because he overdelivered in this episode.

The “Talking Things” email is super interesting and applicable to most verticals (ecommerce, Shopify stores, info products, SaaS, and so on).

Here’s the cold email he sent me:

1. Disable Double Opt-in:

A double opt-in includes a confirmation step where the contact receives an email & has to confirm their signup.

Some subscribers will forget to click the confirmation link, which means they’ll never actually become subscribers.

2. The drag-and-drop bonus:

Helpful for getting out of promo tab prison.

Incentivize subscribers to drag your email into the primary inbox.

3. Reward for opening x amount of emails:

This is a great way to reward engaged subscribers and reinforce their positive behavior.

4. Survey with Easter Eggs:

Whenever you ask subscribers to take a survey, hide special rewards throughout the survey as well as at the end of the survey.

5. Because you clicked:

This is a great way to 2x your daily sales.

This is a special campaign follow-up for people who’ve clicked a specific email but haven’t purchased.

6. Create your wall of social proof:

Social Proof is a must leverage asset within your emails.

7. Tweak your sender line
