Having analyzed tens of thousands of websites over the years and working strategically on hundreds, time and time again the most important and recurring factor we see when it comes to ranking websites more highly comes back to domain authority.
Common SEO tools like ahrefs, semrush, moz, and so on all have their own tools and Domain Authority / Rating scores, but the premise of the score comes back to a few main elements:
1. Volume of backlinks
2. Quality of backlinks (domain authority of those pointing to you, among other things)
3. Relative authority in a specific niche
4. Time (unfortunate factor but a nature of the SEO beast nonetheless)
When a site has a low authority and is fighting for challenging keywords, even lesser competitive ones, it can be a painful process to rank on by the competition. For a brand new website oftentimes you can forget even trying unless your content is truly THAT special. There are infinite ways around this however, we’ve seen many. But all in all if you’re putting out great content and investing time into building quality, relative, contextual backlinks to your site and doing so at a faster pace than your competitors, you will outrank them eventually…. granted the other areas of your SEO are running efficiently which we’ll explore in the rest of our SEO for Dads series 🔜
