In just one year the app surpassed Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest in adding new buyers to the platform. Now, another impending deadline to sell in the U.S. could upend the lives of businesses and creators who have come to depend on the app.

With a new FTC rule targeting the selling or buying of fake traffic, false reviews, celebrity endorsements and botted influence… a lot of YouTubers, twitch streamers and social media companies are finally at risk for their deceptive tactics.
It remains to be seen what level of enforcement this rule might receive, but the simple fact that the FTC has put something on the books to allow for harder prosecution of paid followers and fake traffic is, itself, a win.
Companies from Amazon, to Twitch, Rumble, Youtube and Facebook are all in the crosshairs as the social media house of cards is finally being looked at.
