SEO takes forever to get results, there must be a better way to get traffic that doesn’t involve ads. Today, I’m going to break down how this works way better than SEO.
Look, You’re probably like, “Neil, you blog about SEO, you have an SEO tool called Ubersuggest, what could be better than SEO?” Well, there’s a ton of things better than SEO, and you can probably name tons of them, Even though I’m addicted to it, and generally, I’m just addicted to digital marketing.
But even though I blog about SEO, and I believe in it because it produces such amazing results and you can create literally a hundred million plus, even billion dollar companies just through SEO. You’re probably wondering, “Neil, what is it that you… Works way better than SEO?”
I want you to check out something on my website, and I mentioned it in this video, it’s called Ubersuggest. Neilpatel.com/ubersuggest. And it’s a tool, you can put in your domain name, and it gets keywords, shows you, you know, what keywords your domain ranks for, your competitors rank for. Even tells you what keywords your competitors rank for that you don’t. It’ll even tell you how many people link to you, or even tell you how much traffic you’re getting or estimate that. It’ll even tell you new keyword opportunities, and you can do keyword research or content research. It even tells you what errors you have on your website.
So how is this better than SEO? Do you want to know what drives more traffic than anything else? Take a guess. Ubersuggest. Did you know, over 400,000 people a month find my website by just either typing in the keyword Ubersuggest, or going directly to my domain.
On the flip side, less than 100,000 people a month find my domain by typing in, Neil Patel. So what does this tell you? Tools are more powerful, tools work better than content, tools build more links than manually reaching out.
When I created a free tool, Ubersuggest, and I just kept releasing more and more features for free. Sure, there’s paid features as well, but the majority of the app is for free. Did you know I generated over 10,000 backlinks, and I didn’t really have to do anything, just kept improving the product. You’re in the auto industry, there’s a tool for that. You’re in the mortgage industry, there’s a tool for that. You’re in the hair salon industry, there’s a tool for that. They literally have tools on everything.
So what I want you to do, is go to the site, check out one of the tools. I’m not affiliated with them. And you can get some of these tools for $5, $10, $20, 50 bucks. Usually, it’s rare to find a tool on Codecanyon for over 50 bucks. And pop it on your website, white label it, and then boom.
Over time, you’ll find that the tool generates more traffic, more backlinks, and it helps you generate more SEO traffic without really doing SEO.

They say it takes six months to a year to start seeing SEO results. And you have to invest hundreds, if not thousands of hours to see results. But does it really have to be that way? Today, I’m going to break down how much time you really need to invest in SEO with a new website that has no traffic.
Look, you don’t need to do hundreds of different things or spend hundreds, if not thousands of hours on SEO to start seeing results. I’m not telling you you’re going to rank number one for terms like “credit cards” by putting in very little time, but you can start seeing results for keywords that aren’t as competitive, or long tailed key terms. And I’m going to break down what you need to do to start, for a new website, to start seeing results. And you can do this in a handful of hours each and every single week
When you’re starting a new website, you need to be focused on creating authority in your space. This means creating lots of content, and seeing how Google will respond to different topics that you approach. Watch your rankings over time, because if you pop out content, what you’ll find is it’ll either rank well, or it won’t. And some topics do well, and some don’t.
And when you start ranking higher with keywords on certain topics, write more about those topics. Don’t duplicate your content. And if you’ve been writing content keywords related to a topic that you haven’t been able to rank for, go and focus on other topics that are working.
What I want you to do is go to Ubersuggest, and put it in that keyword. And when you click on the Keyword Ideas report, it’ll show you are there key terms that are more longer tail that you could potentially target, and create content around that and see what happens. And when you’re on Ubersuggest, another thing that I want you to do is, in the keyword ideas report, you have the ability to put in your domain name on the right side, and it’ll show you keywords that you could potentially rank number one, or on page one for. And this will filter the keywords, that we are focusing on the right ones from day one. By now, once you’ve implemented some of these steps, you should be getting some traffic.
And now I want you to start using Google Search Console, which, funny enough, connects with Ubersuggest. And what you want to do within Google Search Console is look at the keywords that are getting a lot impressions and not enough clicks, and make sure you adapt your content to include those keywords, not just within your content, but within your title tag and your meta description.
And by doing that, you’re more likely to rank for some of those keywords that are getting tons of impressions, but not enough clicks, assuming that they’re related to the content on your website and the services or products that you have to offer.
A lot of people believe when you’re doing this process, you need to continually build a lot of links. And that’s not necessarily the case if you want to rank for long tail terms.
Now, keyword research, another two to three hours a month, and that’ll get you all the keywords you can be targeting, and you can even create lists of these keywords within Ubersuggest. And that’s a rough breakdown of where you can get started.
Now if you want a bonus tip on where you should spend some extra time, I would recommend going to Ubersuggest, putting in a URL, and looking at the site audit report. Look, if you have amazing content, but you have all these errors that prevent Google from crawling your website or indexing pages, how well do you think you’re going to rank? Not well at all, right? Because no matter how great your content is, they can’t crawl it, or understand it, or navigate through your site in an efficient way. You’re just not going to do that well.
Now this tip here, in Ubersuggest when you put in your URL and you look at the site audit report, this’ll tell you all the errors and what you need to fix. And the beautiful part is, you don’t have to do this every week, but just once a month, put a new URL, and look at all the issues, and look at the issues from top to bottom. Because in Ubersuggests, it breaks down the issues that are hurting your rankings more than others that’ll have the biggest impact.

SEO’s tough and usually requires a big team. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to do SEO, when you’re a solo entrepreneur? Look, there is. Today I’m going to break down a realistic approach to SEO for busy solo entrepreneurs.
If you don’t have a big team or any team for that matter of fact, I want you to focus just on two things.
Number one, optimizing existing content and number two, creating new content. So let’s go over optimizing existing content first. First, use the Google search console. Google search console will show you, Hey, what content is getting impressions and which content is getting clicks and also shows your click-through rate.
And I want you to improve your click-through rate and the way you end up doing that is look at the keywords that are sitting on page two. Are those keywords in your title tag? Are they within your meta description? Is your title tag and meta-description, you know, very relevant from an appealing perspective. Think of copywriting.
The next thing I like doing is putting in the keywords that you’re seeing in Google search console within to those pages as well. So now that you just put them in your title tag and meta description, also put them within the content.
Second use Ubersuggest. Ubersuggest has a rank tracking feature that you can get started for free and you can see which ones of your keywords are getting more traction and less traction over time. It’ll tell you which keywords are getting more traction on mobile or even desktop device, or even in certain regions.
Another feature I want you to use in Ubersuggest is a content ideas report. This shows you all the other people that have content around similar keywords, like your competitors, and really make sure you there are social shares and the backlinks and the headlines that they’re using.
Third, use Google analytics. I want you to improve your dwell time. I want you to identify the content pieces that are underperforming and consolidate them with the pages that are doing well on the same topic.
Now let’s go over creating new content. First, let’s find keyword opportunities that you can rank for. Go to Ubersuggest, use a keyword ideas report, you can find in the left-hand navigation, and type in keywords related to your space.
Then I want you to go to the competitive analysis report in Ubersuggest. This is where you can put it in a competitor URL. It’ll show you their top pages by traffic show you the social shares for those pages and it’ll even show you all the keywords that the competitor’s page ranks for.
And then you can go over to their site and look at that page and be like, whoa, this is the content that they have. I can create something way better than this.
Second, let’s analyze your competitors for new keywords you want to target. You’ll see a report within Ubersuggest in the competitive analysis that just shows you all the keywords your competitors rank for.
The next feature in Ubersuggest you should check out is the SERP analysis within the keyword ideas report. And this will give you an idea of, Hey, this is how I create content that covers the whole topic.
Now that we’re going away from Ubersuggest what I want you to also focus on is writing content that is at least 50% better than everyone else who’s ranking for that keyword.
Now last but not least, I want to wrap up this video by covering a few other things that you should know. On-page SEO will produce better outcomes if you’re managing an older website. In the early days, you could pretty much solve your on-page SEO by just decreasing your load time.
And as you create new content, you want to work on your title tags, meta-description tags, heading tags, which just helps you rank. You want to have a site map.
And make sure that your robots are at TXT or your meta-tags, you’re not blocking any of the major crawlers or any pages that you shouldn’t be blocking.
And when it comes to creating content, you should be spending two to eight hours per week, depending on how competitive your niche is and how amazing your content needs to be in order to outperform your competition.
If your site’s really big, you could actually spend a lot of time on on-page SEO and it could be a daily thing. You may have people full-time focused on it.
