Back in 2019, I deleted my Instagram of over 4,000 followers. Taking steps back from social media has completely transformed my life, mental health, and business. I deleted TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat & Instagram this past year. My biggest fear was that I wouldn’t be known or that I wouldn’t be able to make a difference in the world if I wasn’t constantly online.
I sat down to share a few of the things I’ve learned since leaving the social media world.
After our video “A Year Without Social Media” went viral, I realized how many people are miserable and connect with the message of finding contentment again. With the release of the Social Dilemma and other content, I know there is a rising conversation regarding how technology affects our lives. Learning to be present and finding alone time has helped me control the worry and anxiety that I’ve dealt with all of my life.
There’s a clear difference between our followers and our friends and we’ve lost that reality. While we have become more connected as a society, we so often feel alone. I am by no means telling people how to live, but I think it is essential that we pause and take a step that’s best for us and our family.
We do so much for others, but I believe in this new year it’s time that we start prioritizing ourselves. We can’t pour if we’re empty and we surely can’t help people if all of our attention is on a device.

Have you ever felt like when you’re on any of your social media accounts (even here on YouTube) you see content that you didn’t necessary subscribe to… but it might really fit your interests? I know I sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I just saw an incredible new documentary on Netflix called “The Social Dilemma” that describes how social media platforms are used to sell your attention and has worldwide severe consequences. We tweet, we like, and we share— but what are the consequences of our growing dependence on social media? As digital platforms increasingly become a lifeline to stay connected, Silicon Valley insiders reveal how social media is reprogramming civilization by exposing what’s hiding on the other side of your screen.
https://Netflix.com/thesocialdilemma
ABOUT THE SOCIAL DILEMMA
The world has long recognized the positive applications of social media, from its role in empowering protesters to speak out against oppression during the Arab Spring uprisings almost a decade ago, to serving an instrumental role in fighting for equity and justice today. And in 2020, during an astonishing global pandemic, social media has become our lifeline to stay in touch with loved ones, as well as proving to be an asset for mobilizing civil rights protests. However, the system that connects us also invisibly controls us. The collective lack of understanding about how these platforms actually operate has led to hidden and often harmful consequences to society—consequences that are becoming more and more evident over time, and consequences that, the subjects in The Social Dilemma suggest, are an existential threat to humanity.
The Social Dilemma is a powerful exploration of the disproportionate impact that a relatively small number of engineers in Silicon Valley have over the way we think, act, and live our lives. The film deftly tackles an underlying cause of our viral conspiracy theories, teenage mental health issues, rampant misinformation and political polarization, and makes these issues visceral, understandable, and urgent. Through a unique combination of documentary investigation and entertaining narrative drama, award-winning filmmakers Jeff Orlowski (Chasing Ice, Chasing Coral) and Larissa Rhodes (Chasing Coral) have once again exposed the invisible in a manner that is both enlightening and harrowing as they disrupt the disrupters by unveiling the hidden machinations behind everyone’s favorite social media and search platforms.
The film features compelling interviews with high-profile tech whistleblowers and innovation leaders including Tristan Harris of the Center for Humane Technology; the co-inventor of the Facebook “Like” button, Justin Rosenstein; Tim Kendall, former President of Pinterest and former Director of Monetization at Facebook; Cathy O’Neil, author of Weapons of Math Destruction; Rashida Richardson, Director of Policy at the AI Now Institute, and many others. Demonstrating how social media affects consumers on a personal level, these fascinating insider insights are seamlessly woven into a captivating narrative, including Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men), that illuminates the very real consequences these seemingly innocent technologies can have on our everyday lives.

A/N:
Hiya! This animation meme should have been finished months ago around April (should that justify the old memes). I s’pose procrastination can be a bitch, eh?
School and commissions were a ounce bit of a slow down for me, however, my willpower deserves most of the blame! In the midst of tweening/lip syncing, I lost a lot of motivation to continue the flow of working on it because of how subpar it looked to be so far (and well, it still is).
The only reason I bothered to finish this shite was because I wanted to make something else without having to drop another project as I always do.
With that being said, I’m very excited to work on the next project!
Sidenote: The personifications are, for the most part, heavily exaggerated, with some sort of truth attached that mostly exclusively caters to my personal experience with each website ahaha
